Additional Info – Chocoholics be warned!
Ever wonder were that delicious chocolate you had not so long ago, came from? Come and discover the origin and secrets of one the world’s most appetizing foods. Native to lowland, tropical South America, cacao has been cultivated for three millennia in Central America and Mexico, with its earliest documented use around 1100 BC (wikipedia 2007). The majority of the Mesoamerican peoples made chocolate beverages, including the Maya and Aztecs, who made it into a ritualistic beverage known as xocolātl, a Nahuatl word meaning "bitter water". Contrary to the tantalizing flavor we know, the seeds of the cacao trees have an intensely bitter taste, and must be fermented to develop the flavor.
