Shawandha Bungalows

Shawandha is a low key luxury option in the South Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Located, just across the road from the beautiful Playa Chiquita (Chiquita beach) and five kilometers from the funky town of Puerto Viejo, the lodge offers 13 spare-but spaciously elegant bungalows tucked among old trees, trailing vines and clusters of heliconia flowers and other lush tropical plants.

The bungalows show off a "neo-primitive" concept with an artistic combination of noble woods, bamboo and palm leaves. They are mostly designed for couples and offer king size bed but bungalows with 2 queen size beds and an extra single for families are also available. All have ample porches with couches and hammocks, perfect outdoor lounging. But the real surprise is the bathrooms, semicircular step down all covered with colorful mosaic walls with Mesoamerican and African designs.

The public spaces at Shawandha are designed for relaxing, reading, or intimate conversation with comfortable sitting areas. All are open constructions covered with palapa style thatched rooms and carefully decorated carved woodwork, stone figures and tropical flowers. The lodge’s restaurant offers exotic tropical cocktails and creative cuisine that combines tropical flavors with French recipes.
