Day 1. A MrTico representative will be awaiting you at the International Airport of San Jose for your transfer away from the crowded capital. Through the countryside you will be entering the county of Turrialba, aka ‘little Switzerland’. This is your destination for the coming three days.
more You will be staying in a peaceful lodge, sitting on a mountain top across the Turrialba volcano. Over the past five years, this volcano started becoming more and more active. From the lodge you will be having the best views on the smoking mountain from a comfortable distance.

Day 2. After breakfast your guides will pick you up for a day of vertical adventure, concluding with a coffee tour and dinner.
more First you’ll need ropes, harnesses, helmets and carabiners to follow a river down its canyon. For this relatively new sport called canyoning or canyoneering you will have to walk, scramble, climb, jump, swim and abseil rock walls and waterfalls. Snacks will be provided to fuel your energy consumption. When you’ve reached the take-out, you will be taken back to your hotel for a shower and a moment for yourself.
At night it’s coffee and dinner time. After a short drive to the farm you will learn the processing of coffee at the mill, following with an interactive cupping session, tasting of different types of coffee, chocolate and liqueurs. Back at your Lodge, an unforgettable dinner is served.

Day 3. Dig into your breakfast because you will need all the energy for today’s adventure. It’s time for some serious paddling on the Pacuare River. This is a worldwide renown white water river with class III-IV rapids.

Your guides will pick you up for a 30 minute drive through the mountains to the put-in. After an important safety briefing and paddling instructions it’s time for the most excitement a river can offer. Somewhere along the way, you’ll stop for a delicious lunch your guides will set up for you. Afterwards, jump in your raft for more ‘hard paddling’, rapids, and pure excitement. Don’t forget to bring a waterproof camera since the Pacuare River is more than just miles of adventures fun, the scenery is breathtaking!

Day 4. It’s day four and time for some serious chill out sessions. After breakfast you will be heading to the Caribbean coast by private transfer. First stop for two days: Cahuita.

This small and lovely reggae town is just for those who know how to do absolutely nothing. Sleep in, walk to the beach, swim, watch the monkeys play, have a coconut under a palm tree or a cocktail in one of the many cozy bars. It doesn’t get more reggae than this, or does it?
You will be staying in one of the best value-for-money hotels, in the middle of town, just minutes from the beach. Your Italian hosts will be happy to assist you with anything you need.

Day 5. One of Cahuita’s precious treasures is its national park. After breakfast, pack your rucksack with goodies and enter Cahuita National Park for a full day of hiking. The seemingly endless trail through the forest right along the beach is a real treat for both nature and beach lovers.

Have your camera ready to capture green ibis, rufous kingfishers, Swainson and keel-billed toucans, sloth, paca, coati, raccoons and agouti. Don’t bother with the monkey, they’ll come to you. On the last part of the trail, a quiet picture perfect stretch of beach is your trophy for making it this far. Back in town, catch the last sunbeams with a beer on the beach. At night, enjoy a typical Caribbean dish or a pizza at the popular ‘Corleone’!

Day 6. Today, by private transfer, you’ll move on to Puerto Viejo, another reggae village just 30 minutes further down the road. More reggae, more lively, more beaches. Center town offers you plenty of bars, restaurants and souvenirs. You will be staying just out of town in a beautiful Caribbean style jungle lodge just seconds from the beach.

Day 7. Enjoy your last full day at the beach. Our suggestions are ‘Cocles’ (a surfers paradise), ‘Punta Uva’ (a quiet and marvelous little bay) and ‘Manzanillo’ (a very small and peaceful village down the road) with a large stretch of almost deserted beach and its own national wildlife refuge. At night center Puerto Viejo will be all reggae music, dinner and cocktails!

Day 8. Depending on your flight schedule, somewhere this morning your private transfer will take you to the airport in time to catch your flight home.
