HOT AIR BALLOONING- Flight Description
Go to bed early, because your pilot and his crew will be picking you up somewhere between 5am and 5:30am. After inflation of the balloon envelope in a nearby pasture, you will be asked to come onboard. When the pilot has made all final checks, you will be experiencing something you’ve most likely never experienced before; a soundless rise into the air with the Costa Rican land revealing its natural secrets by the second. Exotic birds will fly below your basket, curling rivers will lead you to the jungle and the upcoming sun will light up the Arenal Volcano. Once the calm winds have blown you over the jungle, your pilot will decent the balloon only feet above the forest canopy for you to meet howler monkeys, sloth, birds, colorful trees, flowers and butterflies. When a river is in sight, you might be asked to take off your shoes for a quick dip in the water with the basket. Look out for caimans and crocodiles. After your flight you will be brought back to your hotel, just in time for breakfast.

1783 was the year of the first manned flight in a hot air balloon. Today, mainly for recreational purposes there are thousands of balloons hovering above the earth’s surface. Costa Rica has only one. The pilot is more than just an internationally ICAO certified balloonist. He is the first Tico ever to become a balloon pilot and above all, he is a good friend of MrTico. Years ago he trained together with one of MrTico’s staff members. Since then he flew hundreds of flights without a problem. He loves every flight, takes good care of his passengers and is proud to show you his land, from above. At MrTico we are happy to have him as a friend and balloon pilot. He’s not just a pilot, he is an entertainer in mid air.
