San Lucas Prison - Tour Description
In Puntarenas we board the beautiful motor yacht Paradise for the 45 minutes journey across the gulf of Nicoya to the island. Once on the island, experienced (and bi-lingual) guides will take you around the prison and point out areas of interest, explaining most of its history. You will be shown the most interesting graffiti, for which the prison is famous for. Groups with young children will be avoiding the inappropriate graffiti images. After the tour you will enjoy a freshly prepared lunch including fish, vegetables and fruits. After lunch, the schedule has planned a gentle stroll along a shaded trail, through the tropical dry forest to Playa el Coco. Feel free to swim or even snorkeling the coast with snorkel equipment that will be brought along.

In the late afternoon the boat will sail back, with you enjoying a cocktail or two while the sun gently sets behind the island.

Additional Info - Alcatraz of Costa Rica
San Lucas Island has held a fascination for people for many years. The indigenous people used the island as a burial place from around 1,500-800 BC. As a result Jade, gold stone and clay pieces have been found. The remote and tranquil island continues to fascinate, but there are many poignant reminders of the brutal past when the island operated as a prison modeled on Devil's Island.
Due to the presence of natural fresh water, the island is home to Howler monkeys, deer, raccoons, anteaters and other mammals. The Costa Rican government has recently accepted tours to this island for both locals and foreigners to admire and understand the beauty as well as the sadness of San Lucas.
