On the morning of a typical trip, the captain will send a driver to your hotel or local breakfast eatery to pick you up and take you to the pier. Fishing tours will provide food and beverages onboard, so you only need a few personal items like sunscreen, sunglasses, and your lucky fishing hat. After being whisked to your boat aboard a dinghy, your captain will take you offshore for marlin and sailfish, or inshore for roosterfish, dorado and snook. Fishing of Costa Rica´s Central Pacific coastline is unlike any other sport fishing in the world. Big fish are abundant year-round but from late December through May you should expect the most spectacular sail fishing in the world with excessive amounts of fish.

The Costa Rican fishing grounds are famous for the numbers of sailfish, but there is also a good chance to hook into a big marlin. These abundant waters also hold large dolphin fish, known as dorado, as well as roosterfish, cubera snapper, broomtail grouper and several species of tuna and wahoo. To have ten shots at a sailfish in a day's fishing is common, but many days have been recorded when more than 30 sailfish were raised in a day.
